As a learning designer, it is important to build a interactive environment by adapting the framwork of both universal design and inclusive design in order to eliminate any possible barriers for learners. It is not only about how to ensure the fairness in every situations but more importantly to remove the variability which may cause an unfair situation.
–How will your interactive learning resource specifically ensure that the needs of all learners can be met?
My learning pod is well-awared of the principle of the universal design and its importance, we plan to benifit all learners especially during the global pandemic. The resource were all provided by online free access for everyone who registered in this course, for instance, learners can change the sub-titles in the video if the voice is not clear enough or download in their own space. To keep learners concentrated during their learning process, we give sufficient consideration to the time required on each steps. Therefore, we did not make the context in a complex way.
–Consider the learning environment for your current design. What potential barriers can be reduced or eliminated to provide more pathways for learner success?
In my perspective, communication is paramount in education. Whether it is instructor to learner or student to student, because it alway conveys information and stimulates thinking. At present, a potential barrier would be less communication in the learning environment so information could not be exchanged in time. Therefore, The class forum is created and opened for everyone to post their thoughts or quesions derived from the course, they can remain anoymous if they wish so that students will have a place to communicate with each other.
In order to make a design for inclusion, we make our course material, assessment, tests well matched. For instance, we ask the learners to visit an exhibition (online or offline) and then share their experience on the forum, later they will be asking to write an essay to identify major stylistic periods and exemplary works in the international history of photography based on the exhibits they visited.
